- An important component for the further development of production facilities
- Ensuring efficient and energy-efficient slab heating
- Commissioning is planned for 2028
The groundbreaking ceremony on July 16, 2026, marks the start of construction for the new hall housing walking beam furnace 7 at the hot rolling mill of Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH. This investment project is a key component in the further development of the production facilities. The new walking beam furnace will ensure efficient and energy-saving slab heating. This will make a significant contribution to stabilizing production processes in the hot wide strip mill and to the targeted reduction of CO₂ emissions .
The official groundbreaking ceremony was attended by the management – represented by Dr. Denecke-Arnold, Mr. Baresch, and Mr. Schröder – as well as representatives from the hot strip mill’s operations management, the project team, and the project management team. Representatives from the plant manufacturer Tenova, responsible for supplying the furnace technology, were also present.
The construction of the hall foundations is being carried out by the contracted construction company STRABAG, which was also present at the groundbreaking ceremony. With this project, Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH is consistently pursuing its strategy of modernizing its production facilities and simultaneously strengthening the foundation for future-proof, efficient, and lower-emission steel production.
The groundbreaking ceremony marks the start of the construction phase. The upcoming project phases will involve the erection of the necessary infrastructure for the installation and commissioning of the new furnace. Completion of the assembly and commissioning of the new walking beam furnace is scheduled for 2028.
